We understand the proposed budget cuts to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the USA have many of our members and partners facing a great deal of uncertainty right now. Several EMBS conferences are held in partnership with the NIH, as their mission and ours to improve health for all are inextricably linked.
We are deeply concerned by the expected consequences of a nearly 20% cut to the NIH budgets. As a result, labs will close, careers will be cut short, life-saving research will not be supported – but most importantly, in the longer term, healthcare outcomes for people will suffer. Such a drastic reduction in federal funding will deprive the public of the medical research benefits our scientists are working toward each and every day.
We stand firmly in opposition to these proposed cuts and in support of our members and their important work.
