Established in January 1999, the EMBS Executive Office (EO) is the conduit to IEEE for our members and volunteers. We are located at the IEEE Operations Center in Piscataway, New Jersey, USA.

Laura J. Wolf

Laura J. Wolf, CMM

EMBS Executive Director

Laura, a native New Jerseyite, graduated from the Pennsylvania State University (Go, Lions!) with a B.S. in Hospitality Management. After working in hotel sales for a number of years, in 1994, she began her career at IEEE in the Meeting Planning Services Department. In January 1999, Laura was hired by EMBS as its Technical Activities Manager and was later promoted to Executive Director in 2000.

As Executive Director, Laura oversees the daily activities of the Society and interfaces with IEEE. Laura’s life is currently run (not in any particular order) by EMBS President, IEEE, her daughter Loralei and her dog, Nico.

Nancy Zimmerman

Society Operations Manager

Nancy is a visionary, strategic, and entrepreneurial leader with an impressive professional background in product management, strategic marketing, and operations. Her professional resume includes working with such brands as Procter & Gamble, Girl Scouts USA, and Hackensack Meridian Health. With an academic background consistent with her career, Nancy holds BA degree from Indiana University in Brand Identity, and an MBA from the University of Cincinnati with a concentration in marketing. Always helpful and happy to engage, Nancy is excited to be part of the EMBS team.

Outside of work, Nancy enjoys family life with her husband Stuart, daughter Ally, and son Harrison. She also enjoys time on the mat practicing yoga, traveling, and hunting for treasures at estate sales and flea markets.

Janice, new to IEEE, comes from a Pharmaceutical background with 15+ years’ experience in Meeting & Convention Planning. Janice received her A.A.S in Business Administration at Berkeley College and took part in their Travel and Tourism program which gave her the opportunity to study in London. Upon graduation, Janice started her career in the Hospitality Industry which included working at a Travel Agency planning large corporate events and working in Hotel Management. With EMBS, Janice will be working closely with the appointed Conference Chairs and its Organizing Committee providing all aspects of Conference & Meeting planning logistics, as well as administrative duties which consist of working in Papercept and Cvent. In her spare time, Janice enjoys spending time with her husband Craig, and their two teenage children, Daniella and Hunter, which definitely keep her busy!

Deidre Artis

Senior Program Specialist

Deidre is a highly competent, results-driven, and multifaceted professional, with comprehensive experience in core business process, strategic planning, and event management. She has worked at IEEE for 10 years. In her previous role she worked in IEEE MCE as a Senior Event Planner. She has 20 years in conference and convention planning working with associations and corporations. Deidre holds a BA degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. Deidre’s new role will be Senior Program Specialist and is excited to be a part of the EMBS team.

Deidre enjoys time with her husband Bruce and her toddler son Ryan. She enjoys fitness, reading and traveling.

Senior Society Administrator

Jedediah is the newest addition to the EMBS Executive Office, but don’t let his lack of EMBS experience fool you. Jed is a fiercely motivated individual that seeks strategic innovation to accomplish the requirements of a demanding work environment. His experience includes 6 years working with the IEEE Marketing, Sales, & Design team, in which he supported both the IEEE Global Sales and Publication Technology teams. In his previous role as a Customer Center Analyst, Jed worked to identify/troubleshoot issues and implement possible improvements within the IEEE Xplore Digital LibraryTM, Author Detail design/maintenance, plan strategic sales agendas, and ensure overall institutional customer satisfaction. Jed graduated from the University of Southern Maine in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an International Focus. Jed will diligently support projects within Governance, Membership, and Student Activities as the Senior Society Administrator of EMBS.

When the day is over and it’s time for leisure, Jed enjoys playing his guitar, practicing yoga, and spending time with his English Bulldog, Dragon.
