Search for Editor-in-Chief

The IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) is undertaking a search for an Editor-in-Chief (EiC) for the IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering (TBME). TBME seeks to publish high-quality manuscripts with broad appeal to the entire field of biomedical engineering. These topics are basic and applied, and range from engineering development of methods and techniques with biomedical applications through experimental and clinical investigations with engineering contributions.

We seek an Editor-in-Chief who is internationally recognized and has a broad perspective on biomedical engineering who will continue the rising stature of the journal. Prior journal service or editorial experience is desirable, as the journal receives over 1,500 submissions per year and has nearly 100 Associate Editors. The ideal candidate has a vision for how to improve the quality of review, raise the stature of the journal, and handle efficiently the logistics of paper management.

The Editor-in-Chief position is for a three-year term and is renewable for an additional three years. The term of appointment will start January 1, 2025, with a transitional period overlapping with the current EiC in August 2024. At the time of appointment, the successful applicant must be a member of the IEEE EMBS.

Nominations and applications will be accepted until a suitable candidate is selected. Applications by any interested candidate should be submitted by May 31, 2024. Review of applications by the search committee will commence in June 2024, interviews will take place by mid June 2024 and selection will be confirmed by the society’s Administrative Committee by July 2024.

Interested individuals should submit the following in electronic format:

  1. Their goals and strategy for expanding and improving the Transactions
  2. A brief synopsis of their expertise in technical editing along with subject areas
  3. A curriculum vitae demonstrating expertise in the technical area of the Journal scope
