Dr. Shiina was graduated from the Electronic Engineering Department, the University of Tokyo, in 1982, and received PhD degrees in electronic engineering in 1987 from the University of Tokyo. He also received DMSC degree in 2006, from University of Tsukuba. From 1995 to 1996, he was with the institute of Cancer Research and the Royal Marsden NHS Trust in UK as Visiting Professor. From 2008 to 2022, he was a Professor of Human Health Sciences, Graduate School of Medicine, Kyoto University. He also served as a Deputy Director of Kyoto University Hospital from 2012 to 2015.He is presently Emeritus Professor at Kyoto University, and Professor of Shibaura Institute of Technology since 2022. His current research interests include visualization technique of structural and functional bio-information such as ultrasound elastography and photoacoustic imaging. He is executive board of the Japanese Society of Medical and Biological Engineering (JSMBE) and served as former president of the Japan Society of Ultrasonics in Medicine (JSUM).
