The 8th ACM Conference on Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, and Health Informatics (ACM BCB) is the flagship conference of the ACM SIGBio and it was held in Boston, MA, August 20-23, 2017. The conference is the premier dissemination forum for interdisciplinary research linking computer science, mathematics, statistics, biology, bioinformatics, biomedical informatics, and health informatics. The past few decades have seen tremendous growth in the scale and complexity of biological and medical data including recent mainstream recognition of big data challenges. This conference serves to showcase leading-edge research on new technologies and techniques around gathering, processing, analyzing, and modeling of data and information for a variety of scientific, clinical, and healthcare applications, from bench to bedside.

The goal of this Special Issue is to publish extended versions of the best papers selected from the ACM-BCB 2017 conference and focused in biomedical data management. Biomedical data are considered in both the traditional form (e.g. as natural language sentences, and in electronic health record) and the more recent mobile data form (e.g. directly taken from mobile and/or wearable monitoring system). Biomedical data management topics include extracting knowledge from biomedical data (“Learning”), performing natural language processing of natural language to predict diagnosis (“Reasoning”), and visualizing biomedical data (“Representing”). This Special Issue will show main research trend in this area, and recent advancement.

Paper submission to the Special Issue on “Informatics on Biomedical Data Learning, Reasoning, and Representation” is by invitation, only.
