Amir Manbachi, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins University, with joint appointments in Neurosurgery, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical & Computer Engineering. As the engineering lead on a $13.5M Department of Defense grant, he established the HEPIUS Innovation Labs, developing state-of-the-art wearable and implantable ultrasound transducers to address various neurological conditions including spinal cord injury. His work centers on pioneering ultrasound solutions in neurosurgery, focusing on advanced imaging, tumor ablation, and neuromodulation.

Dr. Manbachi’s prolific contributions include numerous publications, conference presentations, textbooks, and patented inventions in biomedical ultrasound. He has received multiple prestigious awards such as the AIUM’s Peter Arger Excellence Award, the Hisako Terasaki Young Innovator Award, and Baltimore Business Journal’s “40 Under 40.” A recipient of teaching excellence awards from both the University of Toronto and Johns Hopkins, he continues to forge innovative pathways in ultrasound and medical device development. Dr. Manbachi’s leadership in acoustics aligns seamlessly with IEEE TBME’s mission, where he serves as an Associate Editor.
