Dr. Leroy Hood was among 20 professionals honored for their outstanding contributions to engineering during a Medals and Recognitions Ceremony in Amsterdam, Netherlands in August 2014. The ceremony took place in conjunction with the IEEE Sections Congress. IEEE President Roberto J. de Marca served as the Master of Ceremonies, along with co-presenter IEEE President-Elect Howard Michel. The theme of the ceremony was “Inspire.”
EMBS sponsors the IEEE Medal for Innovations in Healthcare Technology, which is the highest honor from IEEE in this field. Dr. Hood accepted the 2014 award for “his pioneering contributions to DNA sequencing technologies that revolutionized life and health sciences.” To learn more about his contributions and watch his acceptance remarks, visit https://ieeetv.ieee.org/channels/ieee_awards or download the 2014 Awards Booklet featuring Leroy Hood and all of the 2014 IEEE Medal and Technical Field Award recipients.
Recipients of the IEEE Medal for Innovations in Healthcare Technology receive a gold medal, bronze replica, certificate, and a US$20,000 honorarium. The medal is presented annually at the IEEE Honors Ceremony to an individual or team of up to five members. Nominations are due July 1 annually, and recipients are selected by a committee of experts in the field and approved by the IEEE Board of Directors.
