Feasibility of using high-contrast grating as a point-of-care sensor for therapeutic drug monitoring of immunosuppressants

Feasibility of using high-contrast grating as a point-of-care sensor for therapeutic drug monitoring of immunosuppressants IEEE Journal of Translational Engineering in Health and Medicine (JTEHM)

Abstract Point-of-care (POC) testing has demonstrated great transformative potential in personalized medicine. In particular, patients undergoing transplantation require POC testing to ensure appropriate serum immunosuppressant levels so as to maintain…

Side-Channel Sensing: Exploiting Side-Channels to Extract Information for Medical Diagnostics and Monitoring 150 150 IEEE Journal of Translational Engineering in Health and Medicine (JTEHM)

Abstract Information within systems can be extracted through side-channels; unintended communication channels that leak information. The concept of side-channel sensing is explored, in which sensor data is analysed in non-trivial…

For suspected serious bacterial infection in infants, ampicillin administration is a standard treatment (left panel). However, patients with a β-lactamase positive infection may be resistant to this treatment. As delays in effective treatment are correlated with poor patient outcome, rapid identification of this situation is desirable. The assay presented here (right panel) rapidly detects β-lactamase positive infections and identifies ineffective antibiotics in less than 20 minutes, allowing clinicians to make informed treatment decisions at the point of care
