Search for EIC

The IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) is undertaking a search for Editor-In-Chief for IEEE Journal of Biomedical Health Informatics that publishes original papers describing recent advances in the field of biomedical and health informatics where information and communication technologies intersect with health, healthcare, life sciences and biomedicine.

The Editor position is for a three-year term and is renewable for an additional three years. The term of appointment would start January 2023. At the time of appointment, the successful applicant must be a member of the IEEE EMBS.

The EiC must have demonstrated expertise in the broad topics of interest of the Journal (biomedical signal processing, image processing informatics, health/public informatics, bioinformatics, medical data analysis, modelling).  We are looking for top scientists having publications in relevant IEEE and other publisher Journals as well as editorial and administrative experience to manage this rapidly growing journal.

The new EiC is expected to work on setting the strategic vision for the journal, improving the number and quality of submissions, and continuing the improving trend of the impact metrics in line with the trend of the last six years.  Among the duties will be to establish a professional and engaged editorial board, maintain/increase the incentives for the Associate Editors and Reviewers.  The selection of responsive Associate Editors, Managing Editors, etc. will be his/her responsibility.  He/She is expected to work in improving workflows, keeping the time from submission to publication low and disseminate the Journal to wide audiences outside IEEE.  Review of applications by the Search Committee will commence immediately and conclude by October 2022.
