The IEEE International Conference on Biomedical and Health Informatics (BHI) is a special topic conference of IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (IEEE-EMBS). BHI2016 was co-located with the Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition in Las Vegas, NV, USA, in February 24th-27th, 2016. The main theme of BHI2016 was “Integrative Informatics for Precision and Preventive Medicine.” Advancing health informatics has been identified as a grand challenge for engineering in the 21st century by the National Academy of Engineering. Maintaining and improving human health will require integrative and novel informatics solutions to better translate discovery into clinics, re-engineer care practices, and integrate big data of various health networks. In this special issue, four papers were selected to present a snapshot of emerging technologies in the aforementioned technologies.
- A decision support system for tele-monitoring COPD-related worrisome events
- Mining Sequential Risk Patterns from Large-Scale Clinical Databases for Early Assessment of Chronic Diseases: A Case Study on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
- Alignment-Free, Self-Calibrating Elbow Angles Measurement using Inertial Sensors
- Integration of Pathway Knowledge and Dynamic Bayesian Networks for the Prediction of Oral Cancer Recurrence
