Score Prior Guided Iterative Solver for Speckles Removal in Optical Coherent Tomography Images

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging technique widely employed in ophthalmic diagnosis. However, the inherent speckle noise is often destroy image contrast and impair the OCT image quality. Efficient speckle removal algorithms are crucial to enhance image readability and support automated clinical analysis. As an ill-posed inverse problem, it is of utmost importance for speckle removal task to learn suitable priors. In this work, we propose a novel Score Prior guided Iterative Solver (SPIS) in the logarithmic domain for speckle removal in OCT images. SPIS models the posterior distribution of raw OCT images with a data consistency term and transforms the nonlinear speckle removal problem into a linear inverse problem. Subsequently, the learned prior distribution, derived via the score function from the diffusion model, is integrated as a data consistency term within the linear inverse optimization. It enables an iterative speckle removal procedure that alternates systematically between the score prior predictor and the subsequent non-expansive data consistency corrector. Experimental results on both private and public OCT datasets demonstrate that the proposed SPIS has an excellent performance in speckle removal and out-of-distribution(OOD) generalization. Furthermore, downstream automated analyses on the OCT images validate that the proposed SPIS can significantly improve clinical applications.
