EMBS R9 Student Chapter Development Initiative
The EMBS R9 Chapter Development Committee and the 2021 IEEE EMBS R9 International Student Conference (ISC) organizers have a joint initiative to grow EMBS Student Chapters within Region 9 (Latin America). Latin America is the Region that contains the largest percentage of student members within IEEE, for this reason IEEE EMBS R9 have a special appreciation and interest in strengthening even more our student community. Part of the initiative is to have EMB Students Chapters mentoring either new or struggling (i.e., established chapters with less than six active members) Chapters to help them grow and become independent and sustainable.
EMBS student chapters have a great opportunity to promote and strengthen their members in their communities, carrying out a variety of activities to grow and promote technology applied to medicine and biology. Student chapters receive several resources from EMBS, including financial support to develop activities. More information about EMBS student chapters can be found here:
For this initiative, applications will be received from teams composed of (1) an existing chapter in good standing (i.e., active with more than six students holding EMBS membership), which will receive four full-year IEEE + EMBS memberships, and (2) students in a university with no EMBS chapter (or with an existing, struggling chapter), which will receive six full-year IEEE + EMBS memberships. The application includes a fully detailed work proposal for the 2022 year and strategies for keeping the chapter active and in good standing afterwards. The proposals are expected to be developed in collaboration between both groups. A report of performed activities must be submitted by the applicants by the end of 2022. The chairs of the involved chapters are expected to join the 2021 IEEE EMBS R9 International Student Conference (November 4 – 6) and participate from the regional meeting of EMBS R9 student chapter chairs to be held during the conference:
