Call for Applications: Editor-in-Chief of the Conference Editorial Board for the Annual EMBS Conference (2026–2028)
The IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) invites applications for the position of Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the Conference Editorial Board (CEB) for the Annual International EMBS Conference (EMBC). This prestigious volunteer role offers an exceptional opportunity to shape the peer-review process for one of the foremost conferences in biomedical engineering.
Position Overview
The EIC will oversee the review process for contributed and invited papers to ensure all accepted work meets the rigorous standards for inclusion in IEEE Xplore. Responsibilities include:
- Managing deadlines and processes within paper management software (currently PaperCept).
- Training and supporting Theme Editors, Associate Editors, and reviewers.
- Updating thematic keywords and appointing/evaluating editorial team members.
- Maintaining a quality review process with a goal of three reviews per paper and a 25% rejection rate.
- Preparing the finalized conference program, including paper assignments, session details, and chair appointments.
- Collaborating with Theme Editors, Organizing Committees, and the EMBS Executive Office to align review activities with conference goals.
The appointed EIC will receive reimbursement for travel expenses and hotel accommodation for the conference.
Qualifications
Candidates must:
- Be an IEEE member in good standing and affiliated with at least one member society.
- I have experience as an associate editor, theme editor, and reviewer for the Annual International EMBS Conference.
- Possess technical expertise in Microsoft Access Database and a strong commitment to fostering academic excellence.
- Additional experience in a management role for an EMBS Annual Conference or as an editor for an archival journal is highly desirable.
Term of Appointment
This three-year term begins on January 1, 2026.
