Dr. John D. Enderle
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. John D. Enderle. John had a long and illustrious career in biomedical engineering, being one of the leaders in the profession on the international stage
After completing his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering in 1980 from RPI, John began his career as a faculty member at North Dakota State University, where he spent fourteen years in the BME Department. In 1995, John came to UConn and served as the Department Head for the ECE department from 1995-1997, and then served as the founding director of the undergraduate BME program from 1997-2010. John officially retired as a full-time faculty member in 2016.
Dr. Enderle was a Fellow of the IEEE, the past Editor-in-Chief of the EMB Magazine (2002-2008), the 2004 EMBS Service Award Recipient, Adcom member of EMBS (1995-1997), President of the EMBS (1997-1998), and EMBS Conference Chair for the 22nd Annual International Conference of the IEEE EMBS and World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering in 2000.
John was a great educator, being co-editor of one of the most popular biomedical engineering textbooks published. John’s passing is a great loss to the profession and those that knew John personally will greatly miss his cheery disposition and infectious, positive attitude. He will be deeply missed.
