The Steering Committee for the IEEE Life Sciences Letters, under the scope of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, the IEEE Control Systems Society, the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, and the IEEE Life Sciences Technical Community, is undertaking a search for an Editor-in-Chief.
The Life Sciences Letters is a digital Open Access journal dedicated to the timely publication of high quality manuscripts that apply methods of quantitative analysis to biological problems at the molecular, cellular, organ, human and/or population levels. The key scientific themes addressed by the journal will initially include personalized medicine, pharmaceutical engineering, synthetic biology, and systems biology.
The Editor-in-Chief position is through 31st December 2016, and is renewable for an additional three years. The term of appointment will start 1st November 2015. At the time of appointment, the successful applicant must be a member in good standing of IEEE, and in at least one of the member societies. S/he must have served as an associate editor or in a management capacity for an archival journal.
Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate the scientific vision needed for advancing the four key scientific themes addressed by this journal, the editorial experience to raise the journal’s intellectual quality, innovation, and impact, as well as the management skills to be responsive to the evolutions of the life sciences field which demands both timeliness and quality of review.
The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations of the journal with the assistance of publications staff, monitoring of quality and timeliness of publications, identification of areas that require strengthening, and working with the Sponsoring Societies and their technical committees to achieve that goal.
The Editor-in-Chief reports to the Steering Committee of the Life Sciences Letters. S/he chairs the Editorial Board for the journal, and is expected to actively and regularly contribute to decisions about publication policies and priorities. The Editorial Board for the Life Sciences Letters has already been established with distinguished leaders in their respective research fields.
