William F. Auffermann
William Auffermann, MD/PhD, is a fellowship trained cardiothoracic radiologist at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT, USA. Dr. Auffermann has over 10 years of experience in cardiothoracic imaging. Research interests include medical image perception, perceptual training, healthcare informatics, and the application of new technologies in radiology. Current research focuses on developing methods for educating healthcare practitioners on interpretation of medical images based on knowledge of medical image perception and the mechanisms by which observers of medical images arrive at diagnostic decisions. Educational methods have been incorporated in to a simulated radiology picture archiving and communication system and subject performance has been evaluated as a function of simulation training.
