Akira Matsumura received M.D. from University of Tsukuba in 1980 and the Doctor of Medicine from Georg-August University in Germany. He is a member of the International Society for Neutron Capture Therapy, International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, Japanese Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, the Japanese society for Pediatric Neurosurgery, the Japanese Society of Spinal Surgery, and the Japan Society of Brain Tumor Pathology. He is professor in Medicine and a vice president of University of Tsukuba. He is also the director of the University of Tsukuba Hospital. His areas of interest include Neurosurgery, Neurooncology, Spinal Surgery, Stroke, Neutron Capture Therapy, Charged Particle Therapy and Neuroradiology.
