Akif Kaynak received the B.Sc. degree from the University of Manchester, Manchester, U.K., the M.Sc. degree from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ, USA, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), Australia. After receiving the Ph.D. degree in 1994, he was employed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering Sciences, Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, Turkey, then as a Research Fellow at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Kelvin Grove, Australia, before joining the School of Engineering, Deakin University, Waurn Ponds, Australia, in 2001. Currently, he is an Associate Professor in mechanical engineering. Subjects he teaches include physics, statics, dynamics, stress analysis, fibre science, and materials science. His research interests are polymer coatings, functional textiles, and sensors. He is a regular reviewer for various international journals and a coinventor in a patent on conducting polymer coated wool.
