The sixth IEEE RAS/EMBS International Conference on Biomedical Robotics and Biomechatronics – BioRob 2016 – is a joint effort of the two IEEE Societies of Robotics and Automation – RAS – and Engineering in Medicine and Biology – EMBS.
BioRob covers both theoretical and experimental challenges posed by the application of robotics and mechatronics in medicine and biology. The primary focus of Biorobotics is to analyze biological systems from a “biomechatronic” point of view, trying to understand the scientific and engineering principles underlying their extraordinary performance. This profound understanding of how biological systems work, behave and interact can be used for two main objectives: to guide the design and fabrication of novel, high performance bio-inspired machines and systems for many different applications; and to develop novel nano, micro-, macro- devices that can act upon, substitute parts of, and assist human beings in prevention, diagnosis, surgery, prosthetics, rehabilitation and personal assistance.
The technical program of IEEE BioRob2016 will consist of invited talks, special sessions, posters, and paper presentations. Papers cover areas of Biorobotics and Biomechatronics including:

  • Neuromorphic Engineering
  • Brain Machine Interface/Cognitive Engineering
  • Neuroprosthesis
  • Technology for assisted surgery and diagnosis
  • Biomechatronic and human-centered design
  • Micro/nano technologies in medicine and biology
  • Rehabilitation and assistive robotics
  • Biological systems modeling
  • Biologically-inspired systems
  • Human-machine interaction
  • Neuro-robotics
  • Prosthetic devices
  • Biomechatronic and human-centered design
  • Wearable assistive and augmenting devices
  • Pediatric Rehabilitation: Mobility, Socialization, Developmental milestones
  • Geriatric Rehabilitation: Enhancing balance, Fall prevention
  • Locomotion and manipulation in robots and biological systems
  • Technology Assessment, Ethical and Social Implications of Biorobotics and Biomechatronics

Symposia on Surgical Robotics, Rehabilitation Robotics, and Biomimetic Robotics: Due to the success at BioRob 2012 and BioRob 2014, as part of the BioRob 2016 program, there will also be single tracks symposia on Surgical Robotics, Rehabilitation Robotics, and Biomimetic Robotics. These symposia will comprise invited speakers, regular paper presentations and poster session(s).

Important Dates:

  • March 1, 2016 [Final] – Student competition paper submission
  • March 4, 2016 [Final] – Regular paper submission
  • May 1, 2016 – Paper acceptance notification
  • May 15, 2016 – Final paper submission

Venue: The venue for the conference is the National University of Singapore’s University Town (UTown). Singapore is one of the most modern, vibrant, dynamic and beautiful cities in the world. It is the heart of South-East Asia and positioned right in the center of everything.
